Memory Care
Judy's Cottage is a special care unit programmed, designed and staffed to meet the unique needs of persons with Alzheimer's disease and related dementias. Because of their illness, persons with Alzheimer's disease may not fit well into the usual skilled care plans of a long term care facility. Judy's Cottage is programmed to assist person's with Alzheimer's disease and dementia by assisting with activities of daily living and special structured activity therapeutic programming. The staff at Golden Age Manor have all been specially trained to help persons with Alzheimer's disease. A training program molded after one developed by a national Alzheimer's research center, provide staff with a basic understanding of the nature of dementia, especially Alzheimer's disease. The staff learn how to understand and deal with difficult behavior's and are instructed in special communication techniques. The staff uses those techniques when assisting with the activities of daily living. Instructors discuss with staff the special needs of families and the difficult issues those families will ultimately face.
Judy's Cottage was developed by an architectural firm with extensive experience in dementia unit design. Following a functional program plan developed by the staff at Golden Age Manor, this special unit design incorporated many physical features which will help the person with Alzheimer's disease cope with his/her illness. Lighting, layout, outside space, locking systems, wandering space, etc., all assist the person of Alzheimer's better cope with the illness.
